Well I decided on this name for more than one reason, for one there are a myriad of poker sites and all invariably unsurprisingly have the word poker or some sort of derivative of poker in their website address, this is perfectly reasonable, however the way the internet works a site with a bit of a strange name unrelated to what it is actually about can do just fine and sometimes can even stand out a lot more, take Yahoo, Google, Amazon - the names have absolutely no real relevance to what they are actually about, so in effect I chose the name to stand out somewhat more from your run of the mill poker information site.

The 2nd reason is a more personal one, being an Irishman the name had some relevance to me as the Firbolg or more specifically Fir Bolg - meaning Men of the sack - were an ancient Irish tribe, reputedly Greek in origin who fled to Ireland several millennia ago, though I have my suspicions they were just a bunch of Britons having a laugh with the locals. Being an Irish guy I thought it would be nice to let the internet give some remembrance to this nearly forgotten tribe of whom it's highly probably that some of my genetic heritage comes from and finally we Irish like our poker both in Ireland itself and the ethnic Irish feature prominently in the poker world so the Irish name is not without some tenuous link to poker.

Still think it's all a bit bizarre! - Just indulge me then - the rest of the site is all about poker and nothing but poker trust me.
